Meet the GRG Ranch Horse Rescue & Sanctuary Permanent Residents

  • Misty's Bowtie Boy aka "Rocky", 1993 Missouri Foxtrotter gelding

Patriarch of the GRG Ranch herd, Rocky has been a partner and best friend to rescue founder and trainer Renne Walker for more than 2 decades!! From trails to life trials, they've been through it all- learning every step of the way. And at 29 (happy birthday on May 12th!!), he STILL thinks he's a 2 year old OTTB, not a Missouri Foxtrotter. Just ask him, he'll tell you!

A firm but fair herd leader, Rocky has helped to welcome many rescues into the herd and has been a HUGE part of their rehabilitation. He's shown them gentle leadership and helped them see through his interactions that some humans mean nothing but love and kindness. We cherish each and every day we have with this magnificent being.

  • My Cody's Joy aka "CJ", 2005 FOUNDATION AQHA MARE

After having 3 different owners in less than 2 short years of life, this beautiful girl ended up crossing paths with GRG Ranch founder in the early spring of 2007. When Renne looked CJ in the eyes, she knew they were meant to start their lives together. And she's been boss mare of the GRG Ranch herd ever since.

Through reestablishing her trust in humans and watching her blossom into one of the most loving lesson horses- a true caretaker- CJ is a testament of the forgiving, loving, healing nature of horses and how they can forever alter our lives.

  • "Stormy", 2015 Clydesdale-AQHA mare

Born here at GRG Ranch, Stormy is daughter of our girl CJ (out of a Clydesdale stud). She's taken after her mother with her kind, patient, loving demeanor, and she's working on building her riding experience and training in the hopes that she'll join our crew of lesson horses summer of 2022.

She's as kind as she is beautiful, a truly intuitive mare. She has the makings of a fantastic lesson and therapy horse, both on the ground and under saddle.

  • "Ben Dover", unknown breed draft paint gelding, approx 20 years old

Ben joined the GRG Ranch herd back in the spring of 2014. Following an injury that cost him his right eye, he was headed for auction until founder Renne Walker stepped in to bring him home to GRG Ranch.

After life in a barn, having room to move amongst a herd was both scary- and exhilarating. He spent a little time adjusting to losing his eye, learning how to be a horse and interact amongst the herd, he began to come out of his shell and experience joy. He's since gone through training, building his confidence and given the opportunity to flourish, Ben is an important member of our lesson and therapy horse crew and the SWEETEST gassy gelding!

  • In Loving Memory of Cheyenne

    Crossed the Rainbow Bridge 11.9.24

  • "Jade", grade quarter horse mare, approx 15 years old

A recent addition to the GRG Ranch herd, our founder discovered this sweet girl through a Craigslist ad. She was being sold as sound and healthy through an unscrupulous horse broker.

When she saw this sweet mare being kept in a tiny area filled with cow feces, being fed cow silage, and with something going on with her front feet, she knew Jade needed her. So in September of 2021, Jade arrived at her new home. With the incredible farrier care of Klunds Farrier Service and the INCREDIBLE vets at Cleary Lake Veterinary Hospital she's been able to move comfortable and sound, allowing her to do what she truly seems to enjoy and be a part of the lesson horse crew.

  • "Milo", pinto Arabian gelding, approx 7 years old

One of our newest additions to the GRG Ranch herd, we're still getting to know this beautiful but fearful boy.

Milo is a kill pen rescue that came to us in October, 2021 along with Oreo. Terrified of any human interaction, he seems to have suffered some pretty severe abuse. He has some extensive scarring on both hind legs as well as on his muzzle and the corners of his mouth. He DOES allow our founder Renne Walker to catch him (after some quiet, patient persistence) and gets his vet care completed, but is currently being allowed to unpack all things. He's now approaching new people- safely behind the fence- regularly nudging our founder when she's with the herd, and even relaxing enough to remain laying down when she approaches a napping Milo! Keep watching to see him open up!!

  • "Oreo", blind paint gelding, approx 7 years old

Taken in along with Milo in October, 2021, Oreo is also a kill pen rescue with an unknown history.

Having seemed to have suffered some head trauma, Oreo is completely blind. But don't let that fool you!! Initially very timid and nervous upon arrival, it didn't take this brave boy to start soaking up the love and good vibes and start to get some SERIOUS confidence! From traveLing the pasture without missing a step to starting shenanigans with Ben Dover, the biggest kid on the playground, he has NO question that he's safe and home and is always first to call out a greeting to any visitor!

  • In loving memory of Clifford the Big Red Horse #cliffordthebigredhorseforever

Clifford's Kids namesake, world's greatest therapy horse, greatest horse of all time, the best friend a girl could ask for. When I can write the words to do him justice, his bio will be posted!!
