ADOPT OR FOSTER A HORSE

Meet the horses, ponies, and other equines at GRG Ranch Horse rescue, located in Prior Lake, Minnesota. Thank you for visiting our page and for your interest in adoption or fostering. We take in horses of all breeds, ages, sizes, and rideability. Our main goal is to match up horses up with people for the benefit of both you and them.

When you adopt a horse from GRG Ranch Horse Rescue, our aim is for you to fully understand the horse’s capability, veterinary needs, limitations, and training. So many people are sold horses who turn out to have medical or training needs far beyond what the seller disclosed. We WANT adopters to know the full scope of each horse’s needs. Our intent is a successful match between horse and human, with no pressure, no sales pitches. We do full veterinary exams and workups on horses when they come to us so we can get them on the path to health and a new home.

Horses are often passed from person to person, run through auctions, sold or given away, and each time that happens, they’re at the risk of landing in a place where they don’t get the care they need. That stops with us. Once horses come to us, our goal is to fully assess them, rehabilitate as needed, and place them in appropriate homes.

  • Joni Mitchell, 2015 Arabian mare

  • Miss Vicki Lawrence, 2012 grade mare

  • "Mr Bean", aka Captured by Fate, 2017 OTTB gelding

  • Sugar Bar Dillon, 2004 AQHA mare

Sugar is a chestnut mare who is VERY green under saddle, but absolutely does NOT have a mean bone in her body. She definitely has more #whoa than go! She’s a smart, willing, and very kind mare and would be a fantastic partner for an intermediate rider and up.

    Adoption Donation: $2000

  • Luna, approx late teens-early 20's POA mare

Luna is approx. 13.2hh and trained under saddle. She had her refresher training earlier this year and is suitable for an intermediate-beginner aod up. She’s currently being used for lessons by our friends at Hidden Treasures Equine and has been a solid and gentle equine instructor.

Luna does have Cushings, so she’ll need a dry lot, a low sugar/starch diet (grass/hay) and daily Prascend. She’s sound and barefoot, and a well mannered girl for the vet and farrier. UTD on all cares (vaccines, Coggins, worming, farrier, dental).

    Adoption Donation: $2000

Also Eligible for the Forever Foster Program.

  • Marly Jackson (originally part of the 6 pack) approx. 2 y.o. quarter pony, expected to be 13-14hh

Marly was one of hundreds of babies that flooded the auctions early 2023. This pretty little filly has gone through so much trauma in her short life. She’s likely to be stunted in her growth but is a sweet girl with undeniable spirit. She’s UTD on vaccines, worming, current Coggins, and has been microchipped. She does need training, so an experienced home is a must.

    Adoption Donation $1000

  • Jermaine Jackson-2 y.o. grade gelding expected to be 14.2hh

Jermaine came to us as part of the original 6-pack rescued from auctions in 2023. He arrived fearful, traumatized, and sick. He’s gaining confidence and has become a secure and curious boy, working towards becoming an equine good citizen. UTD on vaccines, worming, Coggins, and microchipped. Experienced home required.

    Adoption: Donation: $1000

  • Shadow, A.K.A. Melissa's Shadow, 2011 OTTB Mare

Shadow came to us as an owner surrender. She was much-loved, but due to some lameness and financial limitations her owner could no longer keep her.

With some needed farrier care and exercise she’s moving well.

    Adoption: Donation $2000

Also Eligible for the Forever Foster Program.

  • Griffin, approximately 18 y.o. Appendix Gelding, 15.2hh

Griffin was an owner surrender due to financial hardship and owner’s riding level not suited to his needs. Hoof care fell behind and he will need some diagnostics to determine his riding suitability and training needs.

    Adoption Donation: $2000

  • Esperanza, (approx 20 y.o. pony mare), possibly POA/Haflinger

Esperanza had a hard working life as a camp rental pony. She spent many days being hauled back and forth for years on end and working very long days without a break. She's sound for light riding.

She does have Cushings and is on a half pill of Prascend daily. She has minor rotation from a previous bout of laminitis, but she's done great barefoot with diet management.

    Adoption Donation: $900

Eligible for our Forever Foster Program.

  • Dinky Dolly Parton, late teens grey mini mare

Dolly is 37 inches tall. Following excessive long term hoof neglect, nonexistent grooming, zero veterinary care, and having been deprived of basic needs like shelter, clean water, and access to hay with sufficient dispersal- she came to GRG Ranch.

She has needed only minor maintenance. She's suffered chronic laminitis and requires a dry lot (grass/hay), regular trim (5 week cycle) and close weight management to stay sound.

    Adoption Donation: $700

Eligible for our Forever Foster Program.

  • Itty Bitty Bette Midler, 8 y.o. 23"

Itty Bitty Bette Midler is very healthy, sound, and has great feet. She needs to drop a few pounds- so a dry lot with diet management and exercise will be important. She stands well for the ferrier, vet, leads, loads, and ties; and is overall just a good little girl.

    Available for Adoption: $700

  • Ziggy Stardust

Ziggy was adopted in October but circumstances brought him back to us. Registered as Double M Pep, he is very good under saddle and is ready for a new home.

    Available for Adoption: $2500

  • Eclipse, 2009 Appaloosa Gelding

Eclipse came to us as a transfer and has had a fantastic time settling in. He is now available for adoption! Experienced rider only.

    Adoption Donation: $2000

  • Yasmine Bleeth, approx. 15 y.o. Palomino mare

When she arrived, she had a very painful blind right eye that was removed to give her comfort. She does have a scar in the left eye, but she sees well and navigates without any troubles.

She’s sweet and quiet but doesn’t take any guff. She’s doing incredibly well with her handling and is an Equine Good Citizen. She will do best with someone capable of continuing her handling and training to keep her from getting bored. She’s healthy and sound and has good feet.

As with most mini horses, a dry lot or careful diet management would be best for her.

    Adoption Donation: $700

  • Nicole Eggert, approx. 8 y.o. dappled mare

Nicole is little David’s momma and has handled the weaning process beautifully. She is a very quiet girl, incredibly gentle and sweet, and can tend to be pushed around a bit by the spicier mini horses.

She’s doing incredibly well with her handling, and has also been dubbed an Equine Good Citizen. Nicole will do best with someone capable of continuing her handling and training, and who has a quiet and soft approach. A home with small kids might be too much for this pretty little girl right now- but perhaps down the road, once she’s more confident and secure, that could be in her cards. She is an easy keeper, healthy and sound, and has good feet.

Like most mini horses- a dry lot or careful diet management will be best to keep her healthy and sound.

    Adoption Donation: $700

  • Annie Oakley, Approx. 16 year old mare

Annie Oakley is originally from the same Carlton County humane case that brought us Miss Vicki and Lil Rita. She’s a beautiful and kind sorrel, and she has come a VERY long way from where she began.

    More details coming soon!

    Adoption donation: $1,500

  • Ozzy a.k.a. Diamond Poco Champs, registered 2009 AQHA Gelding

Ozzy came to us as an owner surrender. Much loved by his family, they were sadly another victim of unscrupulous brokers. Fearful he’d end up back in an auction and not wanting to sell him to the horse flipper they bought him from- they reached out to us for help.

    Adoption donation: $2000

Also Eligible for the Forever Foster Program.

  • Demi Moore (formerly Shadow) 24 y.o. Arabian/Appaloosa mare

Recently renamed Demi Moore, she was an owner surrender who was very much loved, but her elderly owner was no longer able to care for her.

She is sane, sound, barefoot, and healthy. She is well trained and seasoned under saddle. She will be undergoing a refresher, and slimming down a bit, before her next chapter.

    Adoption donation: $1500

  • Santana, 2010 buckskin Tennessee Walking Horse (TWH) Gelding

Santana is trained under saddle and doing beautifully with a bit of refresher riding. His feet needed some attention when he first arrived, and he needed to lose about 200 pounds.

Diet management is a must for him. He has all the hallmarks of insulin dysregulation that's so common in gaited breeds, so in order for him to thrive - we need to eliminate those sugars and starches wherever possible.

Today he’s feeling and moving much better and is ready for the next chapter in his life, where he’ll make a fantastic and fancy riding partner for someone.

    Adoption donation: $2500
