The horses who deserve better
Driving past the property, you’d see crisp fencing and the well-kept lawn, and in a lush pasture, a beautiful paint mare. Sure, she was alone - but her coat had a bit of sheen from the grass, she was standing, and her weight was ok. From afar, it looked like she was living the good life.
Then one day in June, we were asked to join the Animal Humane Society and the Dakota County Sheriff's Office to help the pretty mare in the pretty pasture.

Buying horses from kill pens: a story
Adopting a horse didn’t go very well for Bethany the first time around, but she didn’t give up. It all started when she and her family bought a farm, and she began looking for horses to bring home.
“I was looking at kill pen rescues, and my daughter Cassidy came across a black horse,” Bethany says. “I really didn’t know a lot at the time, so I ended up getting her and another horse.” They eagerly brought their two new horses home, and that’s when the trouble started.

Two perfect horses
At first glance, Ruby and Ryker might not sound like very valuable horses. Ruby is blind, and Ryker had a career-ending injury at some point that caused him to be permanently lame. They’d both been passed around until they landed at GRG Ranch Horse Rescue, where their lives would change forever.
