ADOPT OR FOSTER A HORSE
Meet the horses, ponies, and other equines at GRG Ranch Horse rescue, located in Prior Lake, Minnesota. Thank you for visiting our page and for your interest in adoption or fostering. We take in horses of all breeds, ages, sizes, and rideability. Our main goal is to match up horses up with people for the benefit of both you and them.
When you adopt a horse from GRG Ranch Horse Rescue, our aim is for you to fully understand the horseβs capability, veterinary needs, limitations, and training. So many people are sold horses who turn out to have medical or training needs far beyond what the seller disclosed. We WANT adopters to know the full scope of each horseβs needs. Our intent is a successful match between horse and human, with no pressure, no sales pitches. We do full veterinary exams and workups on horses when they come to us so we can get them on the path to health and a new home.
Horses are often passed from person to person, run through auctions, sold or given away, and each time that happens, theyβre at the risk of landing in a place where they donβt get the care they need. That stops with us. Once horses come to us, our goal is to fully assess them, rehabilitate as needed, and place them in appropriate homes.

-

Sugar Bar Dillon, 2004 AQHA mare
Sugar is a chestnut mare who is green under saddle, but absolutely does not have a mean bone in her body. She definitely has more #whoa than go! Sheβs a smart, willing, and very kind mare and would be a fantastic partner for an intermediate rider and up.

Luna does have Cushings, so sheβll need a dry lot, a low sugar/starch diet (grass/hay) and daily Prascend. Sheβs sound and barefoot, and a well mannered girl for the vet and farrier. UTD on all cares (vaccines, Coggins, worming, farrier, dental).

Dolly is 37 inches tall. Following excessive long term hoof neglect, nonexistent grooming, zero veterinary care, and having been deprived of basic needs like shelter, clean water, and access to hay with sufficient dispersal- she came to GRG Ranch.
She has needed only minor maintenance. She's suffered chronic laminitis and requires a dry lot (grass/hay), regular trim (5 week cycle) and close weight management to stay sound.

Yasmine Bleeth, approx. 15 y.o. Palomino mare
When she arrived, she had a very painful blind right eye that was removed to give her comfort. She does have a scar in the left eye, but she sees well and navigates without any troubles.
Sheβs sweet and quiet but doesnβt take any guff. Sheβs doing incredibly well with her handling and is an Equine Good Citizen. She will do best with someone capable of continuing her handling and training to keep her from getting bored. Sheβs healthy and sound and has good feet.
As with most mini horses, a dry lot or careful diet management would be best for her.
Adoption Donation: $700

Nicole Eggert, approx. 8 y.o. dappled mare
Adoption pending!
Nicole is little Davidβs momma and has handled the weaning process beautifully. She is a very quiet girl, incredibly gentle and sweet, and can tend to be pushed around a bit by the spicier mini horses.
Sheβs doing incredibly well with her handling, and has also been dubbed an Equine Good Citizen. Nicole will do best with someone capable of continuing her handling and training, and who has a quiet and soft approach. A home with small kids might be too much for this pretty little girl right now- but perhaps down the road, once sheβs more confident and secure, that could be in her cards. She is an easy keeper, healthy and sound, and has good feet.
Like most mini horses- a dry lot or careful diet management will be best to keep her healthy and sound.

Freddie Mercury, aka Mr. Blackburn 2310: 2023 AQHA colt
Freddie arrived at GRG Ranch in March 2024 (just shy of 1 year old) after his owners picked him up at an AQHA auction and noticed issues with his vision. A visit to the vet yielded a diagnosis that his pupils wonβt dilate. His owners wouldnβt be able to give him what he needed.
Heβs such a sweet boy!

Ed Sheeran "Eddie" mid-20s pony, 13hh
After receiving a call for help from the Sibley County Sheriffβs office, Eddie came to GRG Ranch extremely emaciated (BSC 1.5/9). His feet have been neglected for years and itβs been some time since heβs had a float. One of his eyes needed to be removed.
We carefully planned his diet to avoid refeeding syndrome, and he had many visits for the farrier and vet. Today heβs doing great! He even starred in a demo at the Minnesota Horse Expo.

Oates: 2010 mini gelding
Oates came to GRG Ranch Horse Rescue with his friend, Hall from a case of severe neglect. He had incredibly long feet, his hair matted with burrs, and he needed deworming, vaccines, dental careβthe works.
His teeth had sharp points and hooks, causing ulcers in his mouth, and that was all taken care of with his dental float. He needed about five inches trimmed off his feet.
Since getting his care back on track and with daily pain management, heβs recovering beautifully and can live a comfortable, happy life as a wonderful pasture potato (or, dry lot potato).

Jack: 2007 Welsh pony gelding
Registered Welsh pony gelding, Jack was trained to drive in his past. He may be a bit rusty, as he hasnβt done much in recent years, but heβs a good boy and feeling much better today than he was when he first arrived.
Jack came to us as a family surrender after his owner passed away (with Mary and Keeper). He was in need of some attention to his feet and diet and weight management but otherwise heβs in pretty good shape.
Heβs thriving in a wonderful foster home and will make someone a lovely equine partner.

Ash: 2012 Spanish mustang
Ash is a lovely Spanish mustang who has been well-handled and cared for her entire life. She came to GRG Ranch Horse Rescue because she has chronic uveitis (moon blindness). Her owner - partially paralyzed, fighting cancer, on a fixed income - needed help.
She knew horses with vision impairment - potential or otherwise - were difficult to place, to say the least. She reached out to nearby blind horse Sanctuary, LES Haven Ranch. Sadly, they didn't have the available space. But they knew they could reach out to their friends at GRG.
Ash is well mannered on the ground, and though she's not currently trained under saddle - she is very clever and learns quickly. She'll begin training under saddle, and we fully anticipate a full and happy life for her.
Adoption donation: $2500

Left Eye: 2012 pinto pony mare
One of the TLC girls from a Pine County humane case in April 2025, Left Eye is a large pinto pony mare. She's the mama of yearling colt named Tough, who is with our friends at Minnesota Hooved Animal Rescue Foundation. This pretty little girl is approximately 15 years old. She was loaded with parasites, inside and out, her feet were in awful shape, and she was terrified. Sheβs doing much better already and will continue to get all the care and rehabilitation she needs.
More about how she came to GRG:
Thanks to the efforts of Animal Humane Society agents and the Pine County Sheriff's Office, the lives of more than 100 animals have changed for the better. On April 9th, we were asked to partner with AHS agent Amanda Oquist, as well as with other AHS staff and local law enforcement, to assist in the removal of 2 horses, 1 large pony, and 2 mini horses in Pine County, MN. Not only were they crawling with parasites both inside and out, with feet in dire need of hoof care - suffering the effects of a life on concrete, but these incredible souls survived on a property with no running water. Living with the constant and very real fear of dog attacks.

Bones, 2015 quarter horse gelding
Bones is a 16-hand appendix (thoroughbred & quarter horse) who came to GRG with another horse (Gato) when his person reached out to local horse rescue groups for assistance. Everyone worked together to help the horses and their person, and now theyβre in a wonderful foster home as we get to know them and prepare to place them in a new home (or homes).
He is trained under saddle, though itβs been a couple years since heβs been ridden, and he has lovely manners. He loads, ties, has willingly done everything asked of him in his transition to his foster home. Heβs a really nice horse, and a fantastic ageβmentally mature, and still young enough to have many years of a strong and healthy body.

She's Mighty Fast, 2010 OTTB mare
She's Mighty Fast is barefoot and sound, up to date on all cares, and all around a very well-mannered and well-cared for mare. She's been a solid and reliable trail horse with a level head (and also a big engine). She enjoys going out and doing stuff, so if you do too, this might be the horse for you.
During her racing career, she had 5 first place wins and $104,494 in earnings! This lovely and well-loved mare came to the rescue when her person began to have physical limitations and couldnβt take care of her anymore. Sheβll do best in a group where there are multiple buddies in her herd. At this time, she isnβt accustomed to being in a herd of just two horsesβshe does well when sheβs taken out, but panics if the other horse is taken out and sheβs left alone. Sheβs ready for the next chapter in her life!

Zeus, 2002 Quarter horse/Thoroughbred
Zeus is a 23 year old appendix quarter horse gelding. 16 hands. He's well mannered, kind, and an equine good citizen. He does have a slight sway back, but is healthy, sound, and barefoot. He is trained to ride western and would be a great riding partner for a beginner/ intermediate-beginner rider. He can be a bit buddy sour in smaller settings, and seems to do better with a larger mixed herd or herd of quiet geldings. He's lower on the pecking order and a pretty passive boy.
Zeus joined the GRG Ranch family as an owner surrender after the loss of his aged companion. He's a pretty easy keeper and does well with senior feed added to his diet to support his nutritional needs.
Also Eligible for the Forever Foster Program.

Lizzie, 2005 Haflinger mare

Tony Danza (formerly named Dagger): 2006 Quarter horse
This fellow came to GRG from a herd of about 20 horses in need. He was a stallion, and underweight, so the first order of business was to get him on a careful refeeding program to safely help him gain weight without shocking his system. That went well, so next he was off to the U of MN for castration surgery. Now heβs looking and feeling good!

Hilde 2010 registered Appaloosa mare
Hilde, a 15 year old registered Appaloosa mare. Who arrived to her new home a bit chunky - and bred - on Aug 4th... After just 4 weeks we assisted the Animal Humane Society in removing these mares from the human that caused this deterioration.
Hilde was Tilde's sister, and they'd been companions throughout their entire lives.
Hilde had been bred earlier this spring. Previously a brood mare, her breedings had always settled. But her pregnancy check showed no fetus. Why, you ask? Well, it may not have settled this year. But given the state of starvation and neglect ' it's very possible that she reabsorbed the fetus to try to save herself.
Like CrabApple, her chest is covered in scrapes from leaning across the sharp, broken cattle wire - attempting to reach what little vegetation was within reach.
With a BCS score of 3.5/9, Hilde was in the best shape of the rescued trio. Yet she was still in awful shape, a long road to recovery ahead of her. She's nothing but sweetness, smart and already learning so much. This beautiful girl has such a wonderful life in store for her, and I'm excited to help her continue to learn and heal. π

CrabApple 2003 mare (Reg name No Gratitude)
When authorities came to take this group of horses the excuse was given that these mares looked "like this because they were so old - that's just what old horses look like". No. It's not. Her teeth need to be done badly, and she needed to be fed. Her chest showed the scrapes from leaning over broken metal to try to reach some sustenance outside the tiny paddock of death. On her body were even more scrapes and scars - and the lice infestation...
At just over 800 pounds, she was 300 pounds underweight - a BCS of 1.5/9. And in spite of her nickname, she's been nothing but a lady with her vet work and handling. Though she had a long, long way to go following a careful refeed, her noticeable weight gain in just 10 days was clear evidence of the neglect she'd endured.
She is sweet and she is strong. And I believe without a doubt that this fiery senior citizen will make a full recovery - physically, mentally, and emotionally - and go on to lead a pampered existence as a much loved pasture potato for some very lucky human.

Jazzy , 2001 double registered Kentucky/Rocky Mountain Horse mare
We welcomed Jazzy, a double registered 23 year old Kentucky/Rocky Mountain Horse mare, and Tucker, a registered 22 year old old Rocky Mountain Horse gelding, into the GRG Ranch family.
A year ago, one of this duo's elderly owners sadly passed away. After a year of struggling with her own age related physical limitations, with winter approaching, their remaining owner knew she wasn't able to continue, and she sought out help for this beloved duo.
It had been several years since vet care was a regular part of life - so our first stop was a visit with our friends at Cleary Lake Veterinary Hospital Equine for vaccines, a current Coggins, and exam, and worming while we waited. Aside from being 200+ pounds overweight, Tucker and Jazzy are in great shape!!

Loose Lips Lucy, 2021 grade quarter horse mare
Our sweet, smart, brave and sensitive young quarter horse mare. We VERY affectionately call her Loose Lips Lucy, and she is such a remarkable young mare. She has partial facial paralysis.
In our journey to try and help her to recover as much as she possibly can, our friend Karin with Karing Waves PEMF Therapy came to spend some time with Lucy. We went slow and easy, and Karin did a beautiful job of meeting her where she's at. Backing off when it was a bit too much, and letting her lean in when she found some release, and recognizing when Lucy needed to be done and process the experience.
There is some slow, but steady, recognizable improvement to Miss Lucy's paralysis. She has a fantastic team of vets and bodyworkers giving their all to give her the best chance at recovery.

Shirley is one of a group of four horses who came to GRG as an emergency case in December, 2025. With sub-zero temperatures, we knew that this quartet would be struggling to survive (if they did) and needed our help immediately. Daisy Duke, 2016 pony
Daisy is a 10 year old pinto pony mare that comes to us as an owner surrender.
They thought they'd found their little girl's dream pony, buying this beauty from someone who used her for "Pony Parties". Soon after getting home, she was seen by their vet. Something was a little - off... It seems the little lady had been suffering from painful, chronic uveitis, for quite some time. They knew they couldn't afford to continue to treat her undisclosed condition and reached out for help.
Daisy's vision can absolutely be saved and maintained in its current state with the right support. She does have some scarring on her left eye, a small blind spot from damage that can't be undone, but she navigates easily without hesitation.
