ADOPT OR FOSTER A HORSE
Meet the horses, ponies, and other equines at GRG Ranch Horse rescue, located in Prior Lake, Minnesota. Thank you for visiting our page and for your interest in adoption or fostering. We take in horses of all breeds, ages, sizes, and rideability. Our main goal is to match up horses up with people for the benefit of both you and them.
When you adopt a horse from GRG Ranch Horse Rescue, our aim is for you to fully understand the horse’s capability, veterinary needs, limitations, and training. So many people are sold horses who turn out to have medical or training needs far beyond what the seller disclosed. We WANT adopters to know the full scope of each horse’s needs. Our intent is a successful match between horse and human, with no pressure, no sales pitches. We do full veterinary exams and workups on horses when they come to us so we can get them on the path to health and a new home.
Horses are often passed from person to person, run through auctions, sold or given away, and each time that happens, they’re at the risk of landing in a place where they don’t get the care they need. That stops with us. Once horses come to us, our goal is to fully assess them, rehabilitate as needed, and place them in appropriate homes.

-
Sugar Bar Dillon, 2004 AQHA mare
Sugar is a chestnut mare who is VERY green under saddle, but absolutely does NOT have a mean bone in her body. She definitely has more #whoa than go! She’s a smart, willing, and very kind mare and would be a fantastic partner for an intermediate rider and up.

Luna, approx late teens-early 20's POA mare
Luna is approx. 13.2hh and trained under saddle. She had her refresher training earlier this year and is suitable for an intermediate-beginner aod up. She’s currently being used for lessons by our friends at Hidden Treasures Equine and has been a solid and gentle equine instructor.
Luna does have Cushings, so she’ll need a dry lot, a low sugar/starch diet (grass/hay) and daily Prascend. She’s sound and barefoot, and a well mannered girl for the vet and farrier. UTD on all cares (vaccines, Coggins, worming, farrier, dental).
Adoption Donation: $2000

Marly Jackson (originally part of the 6 pack) approx. 2 y.o. quarter pony, expected to be 13-14hh
Marly was one of hundreds of babies that flooded the auctions early 2023. This pretty little filly has gone through so much trauma in her short life. She’s likely to be stunted in her growth but is a sweet girl with undeniable spirit. She’s UTD on vaccines, worming, current Coggins, and has been microchipped. She does need training, so an experienced home is a must.

Esperanza, (approx 20 y.o. pony mare), possibly POA/Haflinger
Esperanza had a hard working life as a camp rental pony. She spent many days being hauled back and forth for years on end and working very long days without a break. She's sound for light riding.
She does have Cushings and is on a half pill of Prascend daily. She has minor rotation from a previous bout of laminitis, but she's done great barefoot with diet management.
Adoption Donation: $900
Eligible for our Forever Foster Program.

Dinky Dolly Parton, late teens grey mini mare
Dolly is 37 inches tall. Following excessive long term hoof neglect, nonexistent grooming, zero veterinary care, and having been deprived of basic needs like shelter, clean water, and access to hay with sufficient dispersal- she came to GRG Ranch.
She has needed only minor maintenance. She's suffered chronic laminitis and requires a dry lot (grass/hay), regular trim (5 week cycle) and close weight management to stay sound.
Adoption Donation: $700
Eligible for our Forever Foster Program.

Itty Bitty Bette Midler, 8 y.o. 23"
Itty Bitty Bette Midler is very healthy, sound, and has great feet. She needs to drop a few pounds- so a dry lot with diet management and exercise will be important. She stands well for the farrier, vet, leads, loads, and ties; and is overall just a good little girl.

Yasmine Bleeth, approx. 15 y.o. Palomino mare
When she arrived, she had a very painful blind right eye that was removed to give her comfort. She does have a scar in the left eye, but she sees well and navigates without any troubles.
She’s sweet and quiet but doesn’t take any guff. She’s doing incredibly well with her handling and is an Equine Good Citizen. She will do best with someone capable of continuing her handling and training to keep her from getting bored. She’s healthy and sound and has good feet.
As with most mini horses, a dry lot or careful diet management would be best for her.
Adoption Donation: $700

-
Nicole Eggert, approx. 8 y.o. dappled mare
Nicole is little David’s momma and has handled the weaning process beautifully. She is a very quiet girl, incredibly gentle and sweet, and can tend to be pushed around a bit by the spicier mini horses.
She’s doing incredibly well with her handling, and has also been dubbed an Equine Good Citizen. Nicole will do best with someone capable of continuing her handling and training, and who has a quiet and soft approach. A home with small kids might be too much for this pretty little girl right now- but perhaps down the road, once she’s more confident and secure, that could be in her cards. She is an easy keeper, healthy and sound, and has good feet.
Like most mini horses- a dry lot or careful diet management will be best to keep her healthy and sound.
Adoption Donation: $700

Freddie Mercury, aka Mr. Blackburn 2310: 2023 AQHA colt
Freddie arrived at GRG Ranch in March 2024 (just shy of 1 year old) after his owners picked him up at an AQHA auction and noticed issues with his vision. A visit to the vet yielded a diagnosis that his pupils won’t dilate. His owners wouldn’t be able to give him what he needed.
He’s such a sweet boy!

Ed Sheeran "Eddie" mid-20s pony, 13hh
After receiving a call for help from the Sibley County Sheriff’s office, Eddie came to GRG Ranch extremely emaciated (BSC 1.5/9). His feet have been neglected for years and it’s been some time since he’s had a float. One of his eyes needed to be removed.
We carefully planned his diet to avoid refeeding syndrome, and he had many visits for the farrier and vet. Today he’s doing great! He even starred in a demo at the Minnesota Horse Expo.

Billy Joel: Paso Fino gelding
Where to start - this sweet boy was emaciated when he first came to GRG. A body condition score (BCS) of 2/9. Weighing in at 604 pounds, this poor little man was about 350 pounds underweight. His feet weren’t horribly long, but the thrush was awful, he was crawling with lice, and he was in urgent need of dental care.
Today he is healthy and shiny and feeling so much better.
Billy Joel is in a foster-to-adopt home!

Oates: 2010 mini gelding
Oates came to GRG Ranch Horse Rescue with his friend, Hall from a case of severe neglect. He had incredibly long feet, his hair matted with burrs, and he needed deworming, vaccines, dental care—the works.
His teeth had sharp points and hooks, causing ulcers in his mouth, and that was all taken care of with his dental float. He needed about five inches trimmed off his feet.
Since getting his care back on track and with daily pain management, he’s recovering beautifully and can live a comfortable, happy life as a wonderful pasture potato (or, dry lot potato).

Bing Crosby: 2025 quarter horse
Bing was born unexpectedly in February 2025 and GRG Ranch Horse Rescue was called in for help.
His ears were frostbitten and he some special care, including a heated stall, plasma infusion, antibiotics, and a plan for his future, as his mama’s owner hadn’t planned on having a tiny foal.
In no time he and his mama were tucked in at a wonderful foster home and Bing began to thrive, learn how to lead, have his feet handled and other essential skills. His future is bright!
Adoption pending

Keeper: 2013 Welsh pony gelding
-
Jack: 2007 Welsh pony gelding
Registered Welsh pony gelding, Jack was trained to drive in his past. He may be a bit rusty, as he hasn’t done much in recent years, but he’s a good boy and feeling much better today than he was when he first arrived.
Jack came to us as a family surrender after his owner passed away (with Mary and Keeper). He was in need of some attention to his feet and diet and weight management but otherwise he’s in pretty good shape.
He’s thriving in a wonderful foster home and will make someone a lovely equine partner.
Adoption donation: $2500 (or $4000 total to adopt Jack and Mary together)

Mary: 2006 Welsh pony mare
-
Ash: 2012 Spanish mustang
Ash is a lovely Spanish mustang who has been well-handled and cared for her entire life. She came to GRG Ranch Horse Rescue because she has chronic uveitis (moon blindness). Her owner - partially paralyzed, fighting cancer, on a fixed income - needed help.
She knew horses with vision impairment - potential or otherwise - were difficult to place, to say the least. She reached out to nearby blind horse Sanctuary, LES Haven Ranch. Sadly, they didn't have the available space. But they knew they could reach out to their friends at GRG.
Ash is well mannered on the ground, and though she's not currently trained under saddle - she is very clever and learns quickly. She'll begin training under saddle, and we fully anticipate a full and happy life for her.

Ginger: chestnut mare
Ginger was one of the horses we took in from Pine County in April 2025.
Ginger, a beautiful chestnut mare, was most terrified of the group. Her entire lower abdomen (along with her cheeks and neck) was covered with what was at first thought to be hives - but turned out to be dropping scabs from repeatedly getting bitten by dogs. Though she was far too high anxiety for full handling an assessment right away, we suspect she's been taught the basics at some point in her life.
More about how she came to GRG:
Thanks to the efforts of Animal Humane Society agents and the Pine County Sheriff's Office, the lives of more than 100 animals have changed for the better. On April 9th, we were asked to partner with AHS agent Amanda Oquist, as well as with other AHS staff and local law enforcement, to assist in the removal of 2 horses, 1 large pony, and 2 mini horses in Pine County, MN. Not only were they crawling with parasites both inside and out, with feet in dire need of hoof care - suffering the effects of a life on concrete, but these incredible souls survived on a property with no running water. Living with the constant and very real fear of dog attacks.
Ginger is in a wonderful foster home and doing well as we prepare her for a good life with a new family to love her.

Left Eye: 2012 pinto pony mare
One of the TLC girls from a Pine County humane case in April 2025, Left Eye is a large pinto pony mare. She's the mama of yearling colt named Tough, who is with our friends at Minnesota Hooved Animal Rescue Foundation. This pretty little girl is approximately 15 years old. She was loaded with parasites, inside and out, her feet were in awful shape, and she was terrified. She’s doing much better already and will continue to get all the care and rehabilitation she needs.

T-Boz: 2008 Appaloosa mini mare
T-Boz (one of the TLC girls) is a sweet little Appaloosa mini mare, born around 2008, who was one of five horses who came to us from a Pine County humane case in April 2025. Remarkably physically unscathed, her lingering fear is apparent. A very sweet girl, she had the remnants of a banded braid that remained in her mane from a previous life in which she was cared for.

Chilli, 2013 black mini mare
Chilli is sweet little black mini mare whose body bears the evidence of multiple dog attacks in growing severity. One of the girls named after TLC, she came from a humane case in Pine County in April, 2025 with several puncture wounds and at least one tooth abscess. She was started on antibiotics and low dose pain management as soon as she arrived at the rescue. This sweet girl is well mannered and kind, in spite of all she's endured.

Gato, 2004 Quarter horse
Gato is a lovely palomino quarter horse who came to GRG with another horse (Bones) when his person reached out to local horse rescue groups for assistance. Everyone worked together to help the horses and their person, and now they’re in a wonderful foster home as we get to know them and prepare to place them in a new home or homes.
This handsome guy is 15.2 hands, has been ridden both English and western, though it’s been a while since he’s been under saddle. He’s on senior feed, and he’s shown us that he prefers not to be in a stall, thank you very much (he said with each kick to the walls). So, a nice, outdoor shelter is just right for him!

Bones, 2015 quarter horse gelding
Bones is a 16-hand appendix (thoroughbred & quarter horse) who came to GRG with another horse (Gato) when his person reached out to local horse rescue groups for assistance. Everyone worked together to help the horses and their person, and now they’re in a wonderful foster home as we get to know them and prepare to place them in a new home (or homes).
He is trained under saddle, though it’s been a couple years since he’s been ridden, and he has lovely manners. He loads, ties, has willingly done everything asked of him in his transition to his foster home. He’s a really nice horse, and a fantastic age–mentally mature, and still young enough to have many years of a strong and healthy body.
